Yankees Have New Injury Concern Before Facing Red Sox

Yankees could be short-handed when they visit Fenway Park.

All that Jazz? Not so much.

New York Yankees infielder Jazz Chisholm Jr. is dealing with left groin tightness and it could impact his availability for the weekend series against the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park.

Chisholm suffered the injury Wednesday while running the bases in the top of the fifth inning in New York’s win over the Kansas City Royals, according to NJ Advance Media’s Randy Miller.

But manager Aaron Boone didn’t sound concerned Wednesday night.

“I think he’s OK,” Boone told reporters, per Miller. “He felt a little something in his groin. The tests and strength are good, but we’ll see what we have (Thursday).”

It was the second straight game Chisholm had to leave early. In Tuesday’s win, Chisholm left in the seventh inning due to a stiff neck and bloody thumb, which reportedly occurred when he was tagged hard in the fifth inning.

The 27-year-old Chisholm, in his second season with the Yankees, came off the injured list last week after he missed 28 games with a strained right oblique. Despite playing in just 38 games this season, Chisholm leads New York with 10 stolen bases.

In the field, Chisholm has seen time this year at both second and third base. But he can also play center field, which he did on a regular basis while on the Marlins. Miami traded him to the Yankees last July.

Chisholm set career highs last season with 24 home runs and 73 RBI. This year, he started the season red-hot with four home runs in his first six games. That caused a bit of a commotion because, like many others, he used a “torpedo” bat. With nine home runs this season, Chisholm is averaging one long ball every seven at-bats.

The Yankees are keeping their fingers crossed not just about Chisholm but also about slugger Giancarlo Stanton. The 35-year-old designated hitter played a pair of rehab games this week with the Double-A Somerset Patriots while recovering from tendinitis in both elbows. Stanton could make his 2025 regular season debut with the Yankees this weekend against the Red Sox.
