Alex Cora Assesses Red Sox, Makes Trade Deadline Stance Clear

'We have a good baseball team'

Boston Red Sox manager Alex Cora’s stance is very clear when it comes to the forthcoming trade deadline.

It’s important to continue adding, but they need to earn it.

“We have a good baseball team that obviously needs to get improved,” Cora said prior to Wednesday’s series-closing matchup with the Philadelphia Phillies, per The Boston Globe’s Tim Healey. “But it starts here, with the guys that we have.”

The Red Sox have been viewed as buyers since rattling off three consecutive series sweeps prior to the 2025 MLB All-Star Game, but their first two series on the other side have gone pretty poorly. The Chicago Cubs took two-of-three to open up the unofficial second half, while the Philadelphia Phillies took a quick lead in their potential sweep-clinching matchup Wednesday.

Boston definitely looks as though it could use some help…

Red Sox chief baseball officer Craig Breslow will ultimately be responsible for providing them, with the coming week going a long way in telling fans how confident he is in the current group.
