Michael Eyssimont has probably been called worse
Michael Eyssimont will be asked to do one thing for the Boston Bruins.
“I want him to be a pain in the (expletive) for us,” general manager Don Sweeney said on Tuesday.
Eyssimont, 28, has bounced around across his four seasons, spending time with the Winnipeg Jets, San Jose Sharks, Tampa Bay Lightning and Seattle Kraken, racking up a total of 25 goals, 31 assists, 230 penalty minutes and 352 hits.
The Bruins inked him to a two-year contract on the opening day of free agency, hoping he can bring some of the same qualities he’s shown in past stops to their retooled roster.
“A lot of juice there,” Sweeney said when describing the scrappy forward, per Chris Mason of MassLive. “Forecheck ability. Can get down ice. He’s also chipped in his fair amount of goals. We’re going to have to probably put a little bit of trust in these guys in building their penalty killing…
“The juice. The competitiveness. Everybody you’ve talked to in terms of how Mikey shows up to practice every day. He’s a pain in the (expletive). I want him to be a pain in the (expletive) for us.”
Boston likely needs more than a few “pains in the (expletive)” if it hopes to reach the postseason in 2025-26, but you can’t be mad at building adequate depth on the bottom-six. It’ll remain to be seen if these free agent additions are able to stick to their intended roles, however, or if they’ll be asked to do more than initially expected.
