Celtics Add Former NBA Champion Scout To Front Office

The Boston Celtics added a recent NBA champion to their front office on Monday, hiring Drew Nicholas to serve as the organization’s executive director of player personnel.

Nicholas spent last season as a scout with the Brooklyn Nets and earned his championship ring during the 2022-23 campaign with the Denver Nuggets.

The former University of Maryland guard never played in the NBA but is a two-time EuroLeague champion. Nicholas helped the Terrapins win their only NCAA championship in 2002, as well.

Monday’s news continues what’s been a busy year in the Celtics’ front office.

First, Boston said goodbye to former director of scouting Remy Cofield in March, as he was hired as the general manager of the University of Arkansas athletic department. Cofield had been with the Celtics since 2020.

Then in June, Austin Ainge left his role as the organization’s assistant general manager to become the Utah Jazz’s president of basketball operations. He’d served as the assistant general manager for six seasons after being originally hired by his father (former Celtics All-Star guard and team president Danny Ainge) as Boston’s director of player personnel in 2011.
