Former All-Pro ‘Definitely’ Wants To Stay With Patriots

The fourth-year pro finished last season with career highs in tackles and passes defended

New England Patriots cornerback Marcus Jones is entering the final year of his rookie contract.

Jones told reporters at Friday’s training camp session that, while he’s focusing on practice and not his contract, he wants to stay with the Patriots.

“Marcus Jones is entering the final year of his contract and said he ‘definitely’ wants to remain in New England,” Andrew Callahan of the Boston Herald posted on Bluesky. “He also stressed he’s focused on training camp and not thinking about his deal.”

New England selected Jones in the third round of the 2022 NFL Draft and the 26-year-old had arguably his best season during his rookie campaign.

Jones finished 2022 with 39 tackles, seven passes defended, two tackles for loss and two interceptions, one of which was returned for a touchdown, in 15 games (four starts). He added four receptions on four targets for 78 yards and one score and collected a league-best 362 yards on 29 punt returns, including one touchdown. Jones also recorded 645 yards on 27 kickoff returns and earned first team All-Pro honors.

The 2023 campaign was a different story, as he suffered a season-ending shoulder injury in Week 2, but he bounced back in 2024.
