Former Celtics Forward Offers Jayson Tatum Injury Advice

An old friend offered some help

Boston Celtics star Jayson Tatum was quick to rehab his ruptured Achilles tendon injury with the help and advice from the people around him.

Tatum is projected to miss most of next season due to the Achilles injury he suffered during the second round of the NBA Playoffs. While he won’t see much action next season, it hasn’t stopped him from rehabbing in a pool at the start of July.

He has gotten some advice from friends, including his old Celtics teammate Grant Williams.

Tatum and Williams saw each other not long after the star sustained the injury, allowing them to sit down and talk.

“I told him, ‘Listen, you’re going to be emotional. It’s OK,’” Williams told the “Off The Record” podcast in June. “It doesn’t make you less of a man to be emotional about it, to acknowledge what you’re going through, freaking sucks. But, at the same time, we both know your work ethic and your progress. You’re going to come back better than you were before. I’m excited to see his journey and his recovery.”

Williams went through an injury last November after tearing his ACL, putting him out for the rest of the season.

“I’m happy that he’s sharing it with his fans and people that care about him because he has a lot of people and a lot of support because of the person and human being that he is,” Williams said.

The former Celtics forward played in Boston for four seasons before moving on to the Dallas Mavericks in free agency in 2023. Williams was then traded to the Charlotte Hornets shortly after.
