The Boston Red Sox are heating up — and one franchise icon is fired up about it.
During FOX’s All-Star pregame coverage, David Ortiz did not hold back when spotlighting Boston’s hot surge. Speaking with visible pride, the Hall of Famer laid out just how far the club has come in recent weeks, especially since moving on from a major cornerstone.
Ortiz pointed to early-season turbulence, including a dramatic split from Rafael Devers and extended injuries to Triston Casas and Alex Bregman. At the time, many assumed the Red Sox would collapse under the weight of those losses. Instead, Boston has flipped the script.
Since the Devers trade, the Red Sox have posted a 16-9 record, the second-best mark in the American League. Ortiz also noted how the club’s lineup has exploded, averaging 5½ runs per game and leading all of MLB in extra-base hits (98) and batting average with runners in scoring position (.317).
“They’ve got Alex Bregman back, and 300 million new reasons to go get another free agent,” Ortiz said, referring to the club’s financial flexibility freed up by Devers’ departure.
Boston’s 10-game win streak is its longest since 2018, and it has pulled the club within three games of the Blue Jays for first place in the American League East. At 53-45, the Red Sox are firmly in the playoff hunt.
On the pitching side, the ace-like consistency of Garrett Crochet has reshaped expectations. Lucas Giolito’s rebound and Brayan Bello’s growth also have strengthened a rotation that once looked incomplete.
Boston’s front office is expected to stay active at the trade deadline, but with a surging offense and emerging arms, it has already made a strong statement before adding any reinforcements.
