Wilyer Abreu, Alex Bregman Homer To Lift Red Sox Over Cubs

The Red Sox will head to Philadelphia next

The Boston Red Sox were able to avoid a sweep by the Chicago Cubs on Sunday evening thanks to two home runs by Wilyer Abreu and a home run off the bench for Alex Bregman.

It was a rare pinch-hitting appearance for Bregman, who had not pinch-hit since 2022. Abreu’s first home run came in the 7th inning, a 2-run shot to take the lead for the first time in the series, 2-1. Bregman’s 3-run bomb sealed the win 5-1 in the 8th inning, and Abreu’s second home run right after was the 6-1 cherry on top.

Abreu has hit two home runs in five games in his career, with four coming this season.
