Miles Norris' time in Boston has come to an end
The Boston Celtics made a pair of roster moves last week from seemingly out of nowhere, trading the recently acquired Georges Niang to the Utah Jazz before quickly following that up with the signing of former Toronto Raptors big man Chris Boucher.
Niang was acquired earlier this offseason as part of the Kristaps Porzingis trade. It was a homecoming of sorts for the Massachusetts native, but before he could even suit up for the C’s, he got dealt to the Jazz alongside a pair of second-round picks, with undrafted rookie RJ Luis Jr. coming the other way.
While that deal was announced shortly after it was reported, the Boucher signing was not immediately announced by the team. That changed on Sunday night, but not without the team making another roster move beforehand.
Prior to announcing Boucher’s arrival, Boston released Summer League standout Miles Norris. After making his NBA debut with the Celtics last season while on a two-way contract, Norris averaged 9.3 points, 4.3 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game in four Summer League contests for the C’s.
“We have waived Miles Norris,” the Celtics officially announced in a post on X.
Norris went undrafted in the 2023 NBA Draft and signed a two-way contract with the Atlanta Hawks. After spending time with Cagdas Bodrumspor in Turkey, Norris latched on with the Memphis Grizzlies before finding his way to the Celtics last season.
With Boucher coming to town, though, Norris’ services were no longer needed, even though he flashed his potential during Summer League play. Even with these moves, it still seems like the front office has work to do, making the Celtics a team worth keeping close tabs on as the offseason rolls forward.
