'We got to finish strong'
Alex Bregman is winding down his first season with the Boston Red Sox.
Despite missing nearly two months with a quad injury, Bregman has rewarded Boston for signing him during the offseason. The All-Star third baseman has rediscovered his elite offensive form to bat .305/.387/.546 in 2025.
October baseball was an annual occurrence for Bregman on the Houston Astros, and he’ll aim to continue that trend with the Red Sox. They’re tied with the Seattle Mariners for the American League’s first wild-card entering the regular season’s final six weeks.
Bregman and Red Sox relief pitcher Garrett Whitlock joined the WEEI/NESN Jimmy Fund Radio-Telethon before Monday’s game against the Baltimore Orioles. The third baseman reflected on the season before the closing stretch run.
“It definitely feels like it’s gone quickly,” Bregman said. “We are in a playoff race. I feel like we’re a really great team, a playoff team. We got to finish strong.”
After losing two of three games to both the Astros and San Diego Padres, Boston bounced back to take two of three over the Miami Marlins. Bregman hopes to maintain that trend against the Orioles and New York Yankees this week.
The 31-year-old touted the importance of playing clean baseball in all facets during Boston’s remaining 38 games.
“Execution is crucial down the stretch,” Bregman said. “We got to execute our game plan in all three phases of the game. Baserunning, hitting, defense, pitching. That’s four phases, whoops. But we got to execute in every phase of the game. And if we do that, I feel like we have the opportunity to be very successful. Look forward to grinding it out there.”
The Red Sox begin the first of two games against the Orioles on Monday at 7:10 p.m. ET.
