Ranking the top 50 quarterbacks in NFL history…

1. Tom Brady

Drafted in the sixth round (199th overall) by the New England Patriots in 2000 out of Michigan, Brady became the starter in 2001 after Drew Bledsoe’s injury and never looked back.

Over 20 seasons with the Patriots, Brady led them to nine Super Bowl appearances and six victories (XXXVI, XXXVIII, XXXIX, XLIX, LI, LIII), earning four Super Bowl MVPs. His 2007 undefeated regular season featured 50 touchdowns and a 117.2 passer rating, earning unanimous MVP.

Brady won three AP MVPs (2007, 2010, 2017), 15 Pro Bowls and three first-team All-Pro honors. He orchestrated epic comebacks, like the 28-3 deficit in Super Bowl LI.

Signing with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2020, Brady won Super Bowl LV, his seventh ring and fifth MVP, at age 43—becoming the oldest champion.

Brady’s career totals stand at 89,214 passing yards (all-time leader) and 649 touchdowns (all-time leader) over 335 games, with 7,753 completions and a 97.6 passer rating. He holds records for most wins (251), playoff wins (35) and Super Bowls.

Brady’s standout attributes were his elite mental processing, allowing him to read defenses instantly, and his durability, playing into his mid-40s with remarkable consistency. His playing style was that of a precise pocket surgeon who emphasized timing, accuracy, and decision-making over arm strength, although the ’07 season showed that his arm strength was probably underrated.

While critics noted Brady’s lack of athleticism and reliance on system play, his low interception rate and clutch gene ultimately silenced all doubters.

Retired since 2023 at age 45, Brady now broadcasts while enjoying his GOAT status.
