Cooper Criswell and Vaughn Grissom are headed to the IL
The Boston Red Sox are gearing up for a pivotal four-game series against the New York Yankees that could end up having huge playoff repercussions down the line. Ahead of the series, though, the team received a pair of tough injury updates from Triple-A.
With injuries piling up, Boston’s depth has been tested more than ever as its playoff push heats up. However, now some of their depth options playing in the minors with the Worcester Red Sox have also hit the injured list.
Those two players would be pitcher Cooper Criswell and infielder Vaughn Grissom. On Wednesday night, the WooSox reportedly placed both guys on the injured list, as Criswell is dealing with right elbow inflammation, while Grissom is dealing with right foot inflammation.
“The Worcester Red Sox have placed pitcher Cooper Criswell (right elbow inflammation) and infielder Vaughn Grissom (right foot inflammation) on the injured list,” Tommy Cassell of the Worcester Telegram & Gazette shared in a post on X.
After appearing in 26 games for the Red Sox last season, Criswell has spent far less time in the majors this year, appearing in just seven games. He has a 1-0 record with a 3.57 ERA and nine strikeouts over 17.2 innings of work, while also earning the first save of his career.
Grissom has spent his entire season at Triple-A, hitting .270 with 13 home runs and 48 RBIs. With the Sox having a plethora of infield options, though, Grissom hasn’t been able to find his way to the majors in 2025.
With rosters set to expand in September, both guys were viewed as potential candidates to find their way back to the pros. Instead, they will spend the next couple of weeks working on getting themselves fully healthy before potentially turning their attention towards helping the big-league club with their playoff push.
