Red Sox Rumors: Insider Provides Roman Anthony Contract Details
Anthony reportedly could make $230M
Boston Red Sox outfielder Roman Anthony landed a big-money extension on Wednesday — and the details are starting to trickle out.
Anthony’s eight-year agreement carries a base value of $130 million that could be worth up to $230 million with escalators, according to The New York Post’s Jon Heyman.
MassLive’s Chris Cotillo provided details on those escalators, which are primarily tied to awards considerations over the course of the deal. It’s a complicated list to understand, so strap in.
Anthony’s escalators are all tied to his salaries in 2032 and 2033, and while we could try to explain it cohesively, it’s much easier to just list the thing out, with a special thanks to our guy Cotillo. Anthony earns an extra:
- $1M if he finishes1st or 2nd for 2025 American League Rookie of the Year
- $2M for each 1st place finish for AL MVP
- $1M for each 2nd or 3rd place finish for AL MVP
- $750K for each 4th or 5th place finish for AL MVP
- $500K for each 6th through 10th place finish for AL MVP
- $200K for each All-Star Selection

Anthony will receive a $5 million signing bonus in addition to his major league minimum salary in 2025, $2 million in 2026, $4 million in 2027 and $8 million in 2028. The Red Sox will raise his salary to $15 million in 2029, covering an arbitration year, $19 million in 2030, $23 million in 2031, $25 million in 2032 and $29 million in 2033 — with those finale three years subject to change depending on which escalators are met.
Boston has a club option in 2034, which would raise the value to $160 million over nine seasons before escalators.
In short, the kid is sticking around for a while, and he’s making some decent money to do so.
