Yankees Stars Don’t Hold Back After ‘Unacceptable’ Loss To Red Sox

'Got to step up'

Saturday was an unmitigated nightmare for the New York Yankees, who dropped their third straight game of the series to the Boston Red Sox in a 12-1 home loss.

The Yankees are now 1-8 this season against the Red Sox, who leapfrogged their rivals in the standings for the American League’s first wild-card spot. Boston tallied 17 hits and five walks on Saturday, while Garrett Crochet bolstered his Cy Young Award candidacy with seven more dominant innings at Yankee Stadium.

Giancarlo Stanton provided New York’s only offense with a solo home run off Crochet in the fourth inning. The streaking slugger expressed his frustration after the game, per ESPN’s Jorge Castillo.

“It’s not ideal,” Stanton said. “It’s unacceptable. We all know that.”

Aaron Judge’s quiet series continued. The two-time American League MVP has gone 2-for-11 with a walk and four strikeouts in New York’s three losses. That’s after striking out three times in all three games of Boston’s June sweep.

Judge didn’t mince words following Saturday’s blowout loss.

“We’re definitely — I can only speak for myself — definitely angry,” Judge said. “Especially against your rivals, don’t like the showing we’ve had here at home. So, just got to step up. That’s it. Got to step up.

“Everyone in this room’s got to play a little bit better. Pick it up a notch and go out there and take care of business tomorrow. There’s nothing we can do about the past 100-something games we played. We got to focus on what we can do now, and that’s all you can do.”

Boston can close out another sweep when Dustin May takes the mound on “Sunday Night Baseball.” The final game starts at 7 p.m. ET on ESPN.
