Aaron Judge Has Surprising Garrett Crochet AL Cy Young Opinion

Did Judge forget about Skubal?

Detroit Tigers ace Tarik Skubal is still considered to be the 2025 AL Cy Young favorite, despite an underwhelming final start of his regular season.

Some may have believed that Boston Red Sox ace Garrett Crochet had a chance to upset Skubal in the award race following his stellar eight shutout innings during his last regular season outing, but Skubal is likely to capture the hardware for the second season in a row.

Don’t tell that to New York Yankees star outfielder (and possible AL MVP) Aaron Judge, who called Crochet “probably” the AL Cy Young on Sunday.

Crochet and the Red Sox will begin their AL wild-card playoff series against Judge and the Yankees on Tuesday.

“He’s a tough matchup, if not one of the best, the best pitcher in the game right now. Probably on his way to a Cy Young,” Judge said on Sunday, according to the New York Post. “It’s impressive what he’s done so far this year, and I’m looking forward to facing him.”

Here’s where Crochet and Skubal ranked in the AL during the regular season:

Skubal and the Tigers will face the Cleveland Guardians in the other AL wild-card series, beginning on Tuesday afternoon.
