Celtics Make Franchise History With New Uniform Reveal

Boston's new alternates have established somewhat of a gold standard

The Boston Celtics have one of the most iconic uniform sets in sports history. You simply can’t beat Boston’s classic green and white uniforms, which is why the Celtics franchise has been smart not to make any big changes to the jersey for decades.

That being said, the modern NBA brings with it alternate uniforms for each team, with a new edition releasing each season. Boston hasn’t exactly struck gold with their collection of alternates in recent years, but that changed on Thursday as the Celtics unveiled their new City Edition jersey for the 2025-26 season, as it’s a beauty.

It’s a shame that these uniforms are coming out while Jayson Tatum is set to miss most or all of the 2025-26 season, but then again, recent comments from Tatum himself suggest that he might return late in the campaign.

This new City Edition uniform marks the first time in franchise history that the Celtics will wear a jersey featuring no green. It’s worth pointing out that not everyone is thrilled about this detail, with Spotrac’s Keith Smith representing the sector of Celtics observers a little upset over the ground-breaking decision.

Perhaps a green “swoosh” on the uniform would’ve been a subtle way to keep the “green streak” alive without interrupting what appears to be a gorgeous overall aesthetic.

Of course, jersey beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but it’s hard to argue that this uniform isn’t superior to most of the alternate jerseys the Celtics have put out through the years.
