Crochet went eight scoreless innings on Wednesday
Red Sox ace Garrett Crochet put a stellar finishing touch on his first regular season with Boston.
Crochet went eight innings, allowing zero runs, while striking out six against the Toronto Blue Jays on Wednesday. It was a dominant performance from the left-hander to get Boston closer to clinching a playoff spot.
Red Sox catcher Carlos Narváez heaped praise on Crochet following his impressive outing.
“At this point of the year, it’s unbelievable,” Narváez said after the Red Sox’s 7-1 win on Wednesday, via MLB.com. “He’s still throwing gas; everything has shape. We needed this game big time. And he showed up like a beast, like an ace. And like I said earlier about Beast, I feel proud to be behind the plate for him. He’s making a statement for us. We needed this game. And he showed up like a superstar.”
Crochet finishes the year 18-5 with a 2.59 ERA in 32 starts. The left-hander also pitched 205.1 innings, a goal of his this season.
“It was kind of an abstract goal,” Crochet said. “I wasn’t exactly sure how I was going to get there, but I just tried to be as consistent as possible and put trust in my teammates.”
Crochet leads the American League in strikeouts and is second in wins, proving to be a true ace.
The left-hander is now in line to start Game 1 of a Wild Card series, should Boston go on to clinch a playoff berth.
