Red Sox’s Top Prospect Continues Meteoric Rise With Latest Promotion

Franklin Arias is rapidly rising through Boston's farm system

The Boston Red Sox’s top prospect is now one step closer to the Major Leagues.

Franklian Arias — the organization’s No. 1 prospect according to MLB Pipeline — was promoted to Double-A on Tuesday. That marks his second promotion of the season, as he started the year at Single-A before quickly moving up to High-A after just 19 games.

After 87 games at High-A, the 19-year-old shortstop will get a taste of Double-A before the season ends. He held his own with Greenville, batting .265/.329/.380 with six home runs, 21 doubles, 49 RBI and seven stolen bases.

If Arias continues his current trajectory, it’s possible he could reach the Major Leagues by the end of next year. He’ll likely start 2026 in Double-A to get more experience there, then could move up to Triple-A or potentially the Majors later in the season if he plays well.

In the meantime, Arias will try to finish his season strong with the Portland Sea Dogs and keep working on his game. His plate discipline and contact skills are excellent, but his baserunning could still use some polish after he was thrown out in seven of his 14 stolen base attempts with Greenville. The Red Sox would also like to see him develop a bit more power.

Still, there’s no doubting Arias’ potential, as he’s remarkably talented for a player his age. He has all the tools to be a star in the Major Leagues, and it may only be a matter of time before he’s playing for Boston at Fenway Park.
