Brewers Could Be Competition For Red Sox Trade Target
Will the Red Sox re-up their pursuit of this pitcher?
The Boston Red Sox have been linked to Minnesota Twins starting pitcher Joe Ryan for months. In July before the trade deadline, a now-infamous FOX Sports report surfaced on X for a minute or two that said the Red Sox had actually traded for Ryan.
Despite FOX’s terrible error, it’s fair to say that Boston’s front office was interested in and pursuing Ryan, and there’s no reason why that interest wouldn’t still remain as we head into the offseason. ESPN’s Jeff Passan even reported that the Red Sox were “close” to acquiring Ryan at the deadline.
If Boston wants to rekindle their pursuit of Ryan on this winter’s trade market, however, the Red Sox will face competition.
The Milwaukee Brewers are one contender that might be in on Ryan. Bleacher Report’s Kerry Miller recently labeled Ryan the “most likely trade” for the Brewers this winter.
“In all likelihood, both Brandon Woodruff and Jose Quintana will hit free agency rather than reaching agreements on their mutual options,” Miller wrote.
“At that point, this rotation becomes one final year of pre-free agency Freddy Peralta and a very young/inexperienced supporting cast. Tons of promise in Jacob Misiorowski, Robert Gasser and Logan Henderson, but can any of them be six-month workhorses in 2026? Getting at least two years of an established ace-caliber pitcher would be huge in Milwaukee’s quest to keep on winning the NL Central.”
Ryan is arbitration-eligible through 2027. He tallied a record of 13-10 with an ERA of 3.42 and 194 strikeouts in 31 appearances this season, making his first All-Star team along the way.
