Brown is ready to roll ahead of year No. 10 in the NBA
The Boston Celtics are gearing up for the 2025-26 campaign, with their preseason action getting started on Wednesday. After a busy offseason that has seen the team shed a handful of talented players, Jaylen Brown is going to have a bigger spotlight on him entering the season.
Over the past few months, the Celtics have bid farewell to Jrue Holiday, Kristaps Porzingis, Al Horford and Luke Kornet in an effort to clear up some salary cap space. Beyond that, Brown’s partner in crime, Jayson Tatum, is expected to miss the majority of the season as he recovers from a torn Achilles tendon.
That leaves Brown as the focal point of Boston’s offense, and if the team is going to have any sort of success this season, it will largely be because of him. However, he is also recovering from offseason surgery on his knee, but he will be ready to go for the start of the new campaign.
Getting back up to speed has been a challenge for Brown, and it’s a challenge that he is embracing. When discussing the Celtics’ recent training camp activity, Brown admitted that this has been the most challenging preseason stretch of his career.
“It’s intense,” Brown said when talking to reporters on Monday. “I think the coaching staff has done a good job of setting the tempo and pace of preseason. I think it’s probably been my hardest preseason that I’ve had from a conditioning standpoint and a physicality standpoint, but that’s what we’re gonna need this season.”
Brown earned his third straight All-Star selection last season when he averaged 22.2 points, 5.8 rebounds and 4.5 assists per game while shooting 46.3% from the field for the C’s. With Tatum and several other key pieces from last year’s team gone, though, those numbers are going to have to increase this upcoming season.
All throughout the offseason, Brown has made it clear that he still has high hopes for Boston in the upcoming season, even though expectations for the team have been significantly lowered. In order to exceed those low expectations, you have to get off on the right foot during training camp, and that sounds like exactly what Brown has done recently.
