Boston scored five unanswered goals in the win
The Boston Bruins scored five unanswered goals en route to a 5-2 comeback win over the New York Islanders on Tuesday.
Boston entered the game coming off a 7-2 loss to the Ottawa Senators on Monday. As the Bruins were looking to get back on track, Boston trailed 2-0 less than two minutes into the game.
Yet, the Bruins didn’t quit, and instead scored three goals in the second period and two in the third to win 5-2. Following the win, Bruins head coach Marco Sturm said that the team not quitting or getting frustrated by an early deficit is a good sign in the future.
“Those (losses) are tough to swallow, but I was looking forward to today because I knew these guys were going to respond. I knew it,” Sturm said on Tuesday, as seen on NESN’s postgame coverage. “We were all disappointed (Monday) night. Not just me, but my players, too, and I could tell before the game these guys were ready to go. Even after we were down 2-0, the energy was still the same, so that was a good sign.”
The Bruins responded in a big way after Monday’s loss and an early deficit, which Sturm was pleased about.
Although Boston entered the first intermission down 2-0, Sturm remained confident that the Bruins would mount a comeback.
“Was it the start we wanted? No,” Sturm said. “But I felt good for some reason, because the guys were dialed in. And I could sense that they gave me everything they had in the first period. The other guys were just quicker and faster than us.
“And the message was, we just saw that script. We’ve just been through it with Colorado (on Saturday). They did the same thing, and we stuck with it in the second period. And that’s exactly what happened.”
Boston will host the Buffalo Sabres on Thursday.
