Celtics Provide Big Neemias Queta Injury Update Before Pistons Game

Queta has started each of the Celtics' first 17 games this fall

Boston Celtics center Neemias Queta will miss Wednesday’s NBA Cup game against the Detroit Pistons due to an ankle injury.

“Injury Report for tomorrow vs. DET: Neemias Queta (left ankle sprain) – OUT Jayson Tatum (right Achilles repair) – OUT,” the Celtics official account posted on X.

Queta opened the year as Boston’s starting five following the offseason departures of big men Al Horford, Kristaps Porzingis and Luke Kornet and has taken advantage of the opportunity.

The 26-year-old has averaged career highs across the board including 9.3 points, 7.9 rebounds, 1.7 assists and 1.4 blocks per game across 23.6 minutes per contest.

Queta has started each of the Celtics’ first 17 games this fall alongside Derrick White, Jaylen Brown and Payton Pritchard. Queta leads the team in rebounding, blocks and field goal percentage (.628).

The former second-round pick suffered his injury during Sunday’s 138-129 win vs. the Orlando Magic.

Boston will be in a very tough spot without Queta, as the Pistons have not only won 13 in a row, but their starting center (Jalen Duren) is having a career year.

The fourth-year pro is averaging a double-double of 20.3 points and 11.5 rebounds per game across 15 contests this season.
