'Tough to see those ones slip away'
The Boston Bruins had their seven-game winning streak snapped on Thursday at the hands of the Ottawa Senators.
Boston was down 3-1 in the third period, and although the Bruins did tie it, Tim Stutzle scored the go-ahead goal with just over five minutes left. Ottawa then added an empty-netter to secure the win.
Although the Bruins played well, forward Morgan Geekie felt like the team shot itself in the foot as they made some key mistakes.
“We kind of shot ourselves in the foot, it felt like,” Geekie said, as seen on NESN’s postgame coverage on Thursday. “It’s just happened a couple too many times this year to be okay with it. Super proud of the way we battled back in the third. We didn’t start very well, but I think all game we got better and better. It’s always tough to see those ones slip away.”
Despite being down two goals in the third period, the Bruins didn’t give up and still had confidence in their group.
Veteran forward Mark Kastelic felt like the team had total confidence they would get the comeback win.
“Definitely felt like we had the momentum for a second there,” Kastelic said. “We fought our way back into it and, I mean, in the (second) intermission, we had all the faith in the world that we were going to make it a game. That’s what we did; we stuck with it.”
With the loss, the Bruins fell to 11-8-0 on the season. Boston will return to the ice on Saturday on the road against the Montreal Canadiens.
