Kyle Schwarber would be a great fit on the Red Sox
The Boston Red Sox had a solid season, but have room to improve this winter. Adding a power hitter to the lineup may be a priority for Boston.
Kyle Schwarber and Pete Alonso are both available this offseason. Both would have led the Red Sox in home runs last year, but MLB insider Robert Murray specifically called the Red Sox a “team to watch” for Schwarber in free agency.
“A reunion for Schwarber in Boston makes sense,” Murray wrote on Monday.” It’s something that rival executives are monitoring as a possibility this offseason.”
Schwarber played 41 games for the Red Sox in 2021, hitting seven home runs and posting a .957 OPS in his short stint. Red Sox manager Alex Cora said he was “very intrigued” by the three-time All-Star’s free agency this past season.
Schwarber hit a National League-leading 56 home runs last season and is also an MVP finalist. He led all of baseball with 132 RBIs in 2025 and could be a great addition to the Red Sox, who ranked 15th in home runs as a team last year.
Schwarber’s career slash line at Fenway Park is .344/.478/.644 with six home runs across 90 at-bats at Fenway Park. However, if the small sample size is any indication, he may be able to continue his hitting ways with the Red Sox.
Schwarber will turn 33 next season and is projected to earn a four-year, $99 million deal. There may be concerns about giving him a long-term contract at that age, but he has not shown any real regression in the past four years.
Since joining the Phillies, Schwarber has been a two-time All-Star and Silver Slugger Award winner. He also has 187 home runs, trailing just Aaron Judge in homers in that span. Schwarber has thrived in the postseason, which could be great for a young Red Sox team. He has a .907 OPS in the postseason with 23 home runs.
