Yankees’ Trent Grisham Among Thirteen MLB Players Who Just Received Qualifying Offers

Could mean Cody Bellinger is leaving the Yankees.

Thirteen MLB players received qualifying offers on Thursday. This means that each of these players can choose to accept the offer and return to their current team (by November 18), or they can decide to decline the offer and test the market. ESPN’s Jeff Passan was among the first to deliver the news.

The thirteen players offered QO’s on Thursday: Chicago Cubs outfielder Kyle Tucker, Philadelphia Phillies designated hitter Kyle Schwarber, Toronto Blue Jays shortstop Bo Bichette, Houston Astros starter Framber Valdez, San Diego Padres starters Dylan Cease and Michael King, Phillies lefty Ranger Suárez, New York Mets closer Edwin Díaz, Arizona Diamondbacks starter Zac Gallen, Cubs starter Shota Imanaga, New York Yankees outfielder Trent Grisham, Detroit Tigers second baseman Gleyber Torres, and Milwaukee Brewers starter Brandon Woodruff.

The most surprising name on this list has to be Grisham. Many people expected the Yankees to prioritize re-signing Cody Bellinger this offseason, but the Grisham QO offer signals that perhaps the Yanks are preparing themselves to move on from Bellinger.

For any of the thirteen players who sign with another club, their current club will receive draft compensation. Remember also that even if a player declines to sign the qualifying offer by 4 p.m. ET on November 18, they can still be re-signed by their current team.
