Bill Belichick Blows Up UNC Coaching Staff After Ugly Debut Season

North Carolina needs two new coordinators

Bill Belichick is cleaning house in Chapel Hill, N.C.

North Carolina is parting ways with offensive coordinator Freddie Kitchens and special teams coordinator Mike Priefer.

“We want to thank Coach Kitchens and Coach Priefer for their commitment and many contributions to our program and student-athletes,” Belichick said in a statement released Friday. “We wish them both nothing but the best in their future endeavors.”

The Tar Heels’ offense was one of the worst in the FBS, ranking 119th in scoring (19.3 PPG) and 129th in total offense (288.8 YPG). It’s not like the special teams units were much better, as they fell victim to a fake field goal that set up a game-winning touchdown against Duke and a fake punt the following week against NC State.

Belichick led a disastrous first season for the program, which went 4-8 and missed out on a bowl game for the first time since 2018. North Carolina’s North Carolina’s four wins came against Charlotte, Richmond, Stanford and Syracuse — who aren’t exactly power houses — and were blown out by the likes of TCU, UCF, Clemson and Wake Forest.

It’s unclear whether or not those were the extent of the moves that will be made…
