Bills Coach Sean McDermott Explains Not Challenging Kayshon Boutte Catch

'It was close'

The Buffalo Bills had a thrilling comeback win over the New England Patriots, but early on, it didn’t look good.

On the Patriots’ first possession of the game, the Bills had New England on 3rd and 7 from their own 46. However, Drake Maye threw a 30-yard pass to Kayshon Boutte, who dove to make the grab, yet replays showed the Patriots receiver may not have survived the ground with the ball.

New England rushed up to the line and snapped the ball before the Bills could challenge. After the game, Buffalo head coach Sean McDermott was asked about not challenging the catch.

“I didn’t have any,” McDermott said postgame on Sunday. “We didn’t have anything. We didn’t have a replay quick enough for us to do it.

“What I saw on the video board, it was close. You never know. So we just didn’t have any replay, and they got up to the ball fast. So at the end of the day, you know, it worked out.”

The Patriots ended up scoring a touchdown on that drive, which could have ended had McDermott challenged the catch.

Ultimately, Buffalo was able to rally from down 21-0 to get a big 35-31 road win over the Patriots to keep their chances of winning the AFC East alive.
