Bruins Announcer Reveals Grade For Team After Shockingly Strong Start

Boston's surpassing expectations

The Boston Bruins have cooled off over the last few weeks after starting November on fire, but they’re still having a much better season than many people expected. Despite losing six of their last 10 games and falling out of first place in the Atlantic Division, they’re still two games over .500 at 15-13.

The Bruins have been hampered by injuries, but they’ve rolled with the punches, continuing to play hard and exceed expectations.

Boston’s play-by-play announcer Judd Sirott credits new head coach Marco Sturm for giving the team a boost early on.

“You can hear it from the opponents. Having a chance to listen to some of the coaches from the Detroit Red Wings the other night, I think one of the things that really stood out for them was how hard the Bruins are playing for a guy like Marco Sturm,” Sirott said during his Thursday morning appearance on WEEI. “The system that he’s tried to employ…he’s getting the Bruins consistently, as much as possible, to play the same way, and that’s garnered a lot of respect from the opponents around the league.”

Sirott gave Boston an “A” grade for its season so far. He also praised Morgan Geekie for stepping up and carrying the offense with a team-high 20 goals (second-most in the NHL behind only Nathan MacKinnon), especially with David Pastrnak sidelined.

“We’re almost at the 30th game of the season and he’s got 20 goals to this point. That’s a long hot streak. He’s been pretty consistent all season long,” Sirott said.

Time will tell if Geekie and the Bruins can keep it up, as they still have a long way to go. They may not be the most talented team in the NHL, but Sturm has managed to keep them motivated and playing hard every night.
