Bruins Make Pair Of Roster Moves Amid Losing Streak

Boston activated two players off injured reserve

The Boston Bruins made a pair of roster moves on Sunday amid their six-game losing streak.

Boston suffered a 4-1 loss to the Buffalo Sabres on the road on Saturday in its first game after the Holiday break. Following the loss, the Bruins announced that forward Matej Blumel and defenseman Michael Callahan have been activated from injured reserve and assigned to Providence.

Blumel has been injured since Nov. 26 and appeared in four games with the Bruins. In those four games, Blumel didn’t record a point. The 25-year-old forward signed a one-year, $875,000 contract with the Bruins this offseason.

Callahan, meanwhile, has been out since Dec. 2 due to an injury. The 26-year-old has skated in five games with the Bruins this season, failing to record a point. Callahan has spent his entire five-year pro career in Boston’s organization after playing at Providence College.

The roster moves come as the Bruins are set to go out west to play the Calgary Flames on Monday night. Boston has struggled as of late, and head coach Marco Sturm knows the team has to be better.

“Today, since the start to probably the finish, was just not a good day that we wanted,” Sturm said. “But you know what, it’s over. I think we all have to analyze this one today, and we have to move forward because it’s not going to get easier.

“It’s definitely more on us now just to get back to our foundation, back to our game. And it starts with a good practice tomorrow, and hopefully a good game in Calgary.”
