Celtics’ Derrick White Explains How He Managed Seven-Block Game Vs. Jazz

'I don't know what to say'

Celtics guard Derrick White truly stood out in Boston’s thrilling 129-119 victory against the Utah Jazz on Tuesday.

White finished the game with 27 points, seven rebounds, six assists and seven blocks.

It was impressive to see White manage to block seven shots as a guard. After the game, Abby Chin from NBC Sports Boston caught up with White to ask how he achieved such a remarkable feat.

“I’m just trying to help us win anyway I can,” White said. “I don’t know, it was kind of crazy, that’s kind of crazy. I don’t know what to say.”

White’s impressive seven blocks in a single game have etched his name in NBA history. He is only the fifth guard to achieve this feat, joining Doug Christie, Tracy McGrady, Dennis Johnson and George Gervin.

It’s no secret that White is one of the best defensive players in the NBA. However, many people probably never thought they would see him tie a record with seven blocks in a game.

For a 6-foot-4 player, recording two blocks is challenging enough, but pulling off seven is an entirely different ballgame.

The Celtics will be back in action on Thursday night as they take on the Sacramento Kings for their first game of 2026.
