Celtics’ Staggering Leap In Standings Highlighted After Win Over Raptors

Boston is on a roll, and it's reflected in the NBA standings

The Boston Celtics picked up their fifth-straight win on Sunday when they earned a 121-113 victory over the Toronto Raptors. While it wasn’t the C’s cleanest game, as they threw away a 23-point lead before steadying the ship in the fourth quarter, a win is a win at the end of the day.

Over the past couple of weeks, Boston has gone from looking like a fringe playoff contender to establishing itself as one of the most dangerous teams in the Eastern Conference. Considering how they are doing this without Jayson Tatum makes the team’s performance all the more impressive.

It wasn’t long ago that the Celtics found themselves sitting in the No. 10 seed in the East. Now, after taking down the Raptors, the C’s have leapt all the way up to the No. 3 seed in the East, and they have shown no signs of slowing down.

As the standings indicate, the standings in the East are still very tight. Just 1.5 games separate the Celtics, who sit in third place, and the Atlanta Hawks, who sit in ninth place, and as time goes on, teams will begin to separate themselves from one another.

There’s good reason to believe that Boston is only just getting started, though. Not only has the team begun to figure out who it is on both sides of the ball, but it has also picked up big wins over other top teams in the East recently, such as the Raptors, New York Knicks and Detroit Pistons.

And yet, it’s worth noting that there is still a lot of basketball left to be played this season, meaning the Celtics’ work has only just gotten started. Boston will enjoy a couple of days off before returning to action against the Milwaukee Bucks on Thursday night.
