'Yeah, I feel good though'
Throughout sports history, some of the greatest players have faced unexpected challenges, and New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye found himself struggling with a cold against the New York Jets on Sunday.
“Yeah, I feel good though,” Maye told “WEEI Afternoons” on Monday. “You know, just a little bit of runny nose, little bit of cough, but shoot – we battle the elements, and came out with the win. That’s what mattered.”
Maye might have been under the weather, but his performance certainly didn’t show any signs of him struggling with anything.
The second-year quarterback completed 19 out of 21 passes, throwing for 256 yards and five touchdowns in a 42-10 win.
The Patriots were unaware at the moment, but their victory over the Jets was key to securing the AFC East division title, since the Buffalo Bills fell short against the Philadelphia Eagles later that evening.
Maye and the Patriots will look to secure the No. 1 seed in the AFC this Sunday by first defeating the Miami Dolphins, and then hoping the Denver Broncos fall to the Los Angeles Chargers.
However, Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh announced on Monday that starting quarterback Justin Herbert will not be starting, making it a bit more challenging for the Patriots to secure the No. 1 seed.
