Ex-Patriots Wide Receiver Jakobi Meyers Signs Contract Extension
He's flourishing with his new team
Jakobi Meyers will stay in Florida for the foreseeable future.
The Jacksonville Jaguars announced that they signed Meyers to a three-year extension on Friday morning. They shared photos of their new wide receiver putting pen to paper on the contract.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that the deal is worth $60 million with $40 million guaranteed. The extension takes Meyers through the 2028 season.
Meyers led the New England Patriots in receiving yards during the 2021 and 2022 campaigns before joining the Las Vegas Raiders. The undrafted free agent tallied a career-high 10 touchdowns in 2023 and 1,027 receiving yards in 2024, but they sent Meyers to Jacksonville for 2026 fourth- and sixth-round picks last month.
The move has paid instant dividends for the Jaguars, who have scored 200 points in six games since the acquisition. They lead the AFC South amid five straight victories, with Meyers tallying 355 yards.
Meyers, who went 38 games before scoring his first career touchdown, didn’t find the end zone in seven games with the Raiders this season. The 29-year-old scored touchdowns in three straight games from Weeks 12 to 14, all Jaguars victories.
“I can’t remember the last time I heard so many people speak as glowingly and positively about a player the way they have about Meyers,” NFL insider Jordan Schultz wrote. “And you can see it in how the offense is playing — the scoring, the spacing, and how the scheme opens things up. He’s been a massive difference-maker.”
Trevor Lawrence and the Jaguars offense have found new life with Meyers in tow. At 10-4, they’re looking like a legitimate AFC threat the Patriots may have to navigate during the postseason.
