Former Celtics All-Star Isaiah Thomas Opens Up On Potential NBA Comeback

Does Thomas intend on finding his way back to the NBA?

The Boston Celtics are on a roll, as they have now won seven of their past nine games after taking down the New York Knicks 123-117 on Tuesday night. However, they still have several holes on their roster that they could look to address at some point in the near future.

One guy who may just be available is former All-Star guard Isaiah Thomas. The undersized scorer turned himself into a star with the Celtics, and while he hasn’t played for the team since 2017, he has remained a beloved figure in the city of Boston.

Thomas has only played six NBA games over the past three seasons, but that doesn’t mean his career is over yet. The two-time All-Star recently revealed that he still wants to play at least one more year in the league, and that he’s been in contact with several different teams.

“I want to play one more year at least,” Thomas said, per TMZ Sports. “I’m staying ready, staying in contact with a few teams, but just playing it by ear, making sure I stay ready while I can still play at a high level, but knowing I got other things going on as well.”

Fans have pined for the C’s to reunite with Thomas time and again over the years, but it has never materialized. Could this finally be when it happens? While it would certainly make fans happy, it doesn’t seem like the team has a pressing need in the backcourt currently.

You can never say never in the NBA, but it seems like Thomas’ reunion with Boston likely isn’t in the cards right now. As he continues to weigh his options, it will be worth keeping tabs on him to see where he winds up landing if he does decide to run it back for one more season.
