Former NFL MVP Reveals Why Patriots’ Drake Maye Is ‘Fun To Watch’

Matt Ryan is a big fan of Maye

There are only a few weeks left in the NFL regular season, and the NFL MVP race is essentially a two-horse race between New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye and Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford. Every week, it seems, their odds flip based on who has the better game.

While Stafford has the better odds heading into Week 15, there’s still time for Maye to catch him. Leading the Patriots to a big win over the Buffalo Bills this weekend would certainly help his chances.

Matt Ryan, who won the 2016 NFL MVP and led the Atlanta Falcons to the Super Bowl that year, knows what it takes to win an MVP.

On Tuesday, he joined NFL Network to discuss his top three quarterbacks, highlighting Stafford, Maye and reigning MVP Josh Allen.

“Drake Maye’s playing really good football, too…Drake is playing outstanding,” Ryan said. “This has been the story of the season — pushing the ball down the field. His accuracy throwing the football down the field. His grit, his toughness. It’s been fun to watch.”

Maye has led New England to a historic 10-game winning streak and the best record in football. He’s improved dramatically from his rookie season and already looks like one of the best quarterbacks in football at age 23.

Stafford may have better stats, but he also has better weapons and an offense-minded head coach, plus he plays his home games indoors. Maye has had to deal with a new head coach, a new offensive coordinator and new receivers, not to mention a pretty steep learning curve.

Regardless of who wins MVP, Maye has clearly established himself as one of the league’s top quarterbacks with an enormously bright future.
