Former Patriots QB Named ‘Perfect Fit’ For Dolphins In 2026

Miami could be looking for a new starting quarterback next season

The New England Patriots have seen their share of quarterbacks pass through their organization over the last decade, and one of them is Jimmy Garoppolo.

Garoppolo hasn’t suited up for New England since the Patriots traded him to the San Francisco 49ers in the middle of the 2017 season. However, there’s a chance he might face off against the Patriots again soon.

Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox thinks Garoppolo could be a good fit for the Miami Dolphins next season.

“The Miami Dolphins could provide the perfect landing spot for Garoppolo, if they choose to retain head coach Mike McDaniel but move off of quarterback Tua Tagovailoa,” Knox wrote on Thursday. “McDaniel spent five seasons alongside Garoppolo in San Francisco and was his offensive coordinator during the 2021 run to the NFC title game.”

Garoppolo hasn’t been a team’s primary starter since his time with the Las Vegas Raiders in 2023. For the past two seasons, he’s been the backup quarterback to Matthew Stafford with the Los Angeles Rams.

If the Dolphins decide to move on from Tagovailoa next season, Garoppolo could be a solid option to step in, especially since Miami likely won’t have the chance to draft a rookie quarterback in the first round due to its improving record, which puts it out of range for a top-tier quarterback.
