'I'm just very blessed'
Everyone in the New England Patriots’ offense joined the fun in Sunday’s commanding 42-10 win over the New York Jets.
Drake Maye threw touchdowns to five different receivers in another methodical showing. The MVP candidate tossed the final score to Efton Chism III, giving the undrafted rookie his first career touchdown.
Chism reflected on his achievement after the game, per CLNS Media.
“Super special, super surreal,” Chism said. “I think you always kind of dream of those moments, and it happens. I’m just very blessed and thankful to be here and just have a great receiver room, great quarterback, great coaches. Top-down, everyone in our program, it’s just special. Very thankful to be a part of it.”
Despite turning heads with a standout preseason, Chism has played in seven games this season. The 24-year-old worked nearly exclusively on special teams before injuries to Kayshon Boutte and Mack Hollins gave him an opportunity on Sunday.
Chism, who previously played 25 snaps on offense all season, logged 41 snaps in Sunday’s division drubbing. He recorded his first career catch, a 30-yard completion in the first quarter, before securing a 10-yard touchdown in the third quarter at MetLife Stadium.
Mike Vrabel was happy to see Chism finally get his NFL break. The head coach told reporters after the game, per 98.5 The Sports Hub, that the 5-foot-10 wideout has showcased his skills in team practices all season.
“Chis’ has been catching touchdowns on us on Fridays the entire year, so it was good that he got one in the game,” Vrabel said. “Because he’s caught plenty of them on Fridays.”
