Who's JB's No. 1 PG ever?
Move over, Magic Johnson. You’re no longer considered the best point guard to ever play the game of basketball. At least not in the eyes of Jaylen Brown.
The Boston Celtics star recently went live on Twitch with streamer DDG to discuss a bunch of different topics, and when the topic of Stephen Curry came up, Brown couldn’t help but admit that, in his view, Curry is the best point guard ever.
“Curry gotta be (the) best PG all time,” Brown said.
Interestingly, Brown brought up Curry’s intangibles when discussing why he’s so special.
“Steph is a leader,” Brown said. “(There’s) stuff that you don’t also see … Steph has leadership ability … some people just hoop. It’s not just basketball when you’re playing basketball. You gotta be a leader. You gotta be a good teammate. You gotta handle adversity well. That’s how you win championships. Steph does that well. He carries himself very well on and off the court.”
While some NBA traditionalists might scoff at Jaylen’s notion of Curry being the GOAT point guard, Curry actually has a very solid case.
At age 37, Curry continues to play at a superstar level despite his size and average athleticism, recently dropping 48 points against the Portland Trail Blazers while breaking Michael Jordan’s record for most 40-point games after turning 30.
Steph’s four championships with Golden State include two won without Kevin Durant (for people making superteam allegations), and Curry won back-to-back MVPs in his prime.
Perhaps more than any of his trophies or accolades, Steph’s impact is revealed by how he’s completely changed the sport. Curry’s revolutionary three-point shooting literally transformed basketball, forcing defenses to adapt and inspiring a new wave of modern offensive philosophy.
Magic dazzled with his passing, all-around dominance and five rings, but Curry’s scoring prowess and style, with over 3,900 career threes, is something the league has never seen before. Today’s pace-and-space game is a testament to Curry’s influence. You can’t go wrong with either player at the top of point guard mountain, but more people need to start acknowledging that Curry has as rightful a place up there as Magic.
