Jaylen Brown made Boston Celtics history on Friday night at TD Garden.
With a layup in the fourth quarter during a 129-116 win over the visiting Miami Heat, Brown moved into the No. 13 spot on the Celtics’ all-time scoring list. The player Brown passed was a beloved Celtics icon: Tommy Heinsohn.
Brown now has 12,199 points in a Celtics uniform. He turned 29 in October.
Brown is only 88 points away from tying Bill Sharman at No. 12 n the Celtics’ list. Jayson Tatum looms further ahead at No. 9 with 13,784 points, but JT will be back on an NBA court to keep adding to that total either this season or next season.
Brown finished with 30 points, nine boards, and seven assists on Friday to help the Celts snap a two-game losing streak. Boston is now 16-11 on the season after having begun the campaign 0-3.
Derrick White was the Celtics’ leading scorer on the evening, pouring in a season-high 33 points on nine-three pointers.
This was a close game until the fourth quarter, when the Celtics went on a 20-7 spurt that featured a barrage of threes. They went up 19 at on point. Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra kept trying to kill the momentum with timeouts, but Boston couldn’t miss. The Celtics ended up sinking 21 threes on the night.
Brown is now averaging 29.3 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 5.0 assists per game in 26 games played this season for Boston.
The Celtics will take on the Raptors in Toronto on Saturday in a difficult second leg of a back-to-back.
