"Josh McDaniels is the epitome of the downside of the great Mike Vrabel."
Tennessee radio personality Jared Stillman has become a notorious critic of New England Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel.
The Nashville-based host blasted Vrabel earlier this season when he claimed the team’s 8-2 start should be credited to the addition of offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels, not the head coaching change.
Now he is back at it, this time claiming Vrabel is “itching” to get rid of McDaniels so that he can hire one of his previous coordinators.
“I know Vrabel-ese, and I know Mike Vrabel,” Stillman said. “I assume that Mike Vrabel is just itching to get Josh McDaniels out of there so that he can hire one of his loser buddies like Todd Downing or Tim Kelly. I can feel it!
“And you can call me a hater or whatever you want to call me, I can just sense it.”
Stillman went on to say that the only thing keeping the Patriots from winning a Super Bowl in the near future is Vrabel’s ego.
“The only thing in my opinion that’s going to keep Mike Vrabel, and Drake Maye, and Josh McDaniels, from winning the Super Bowl at some point over the next five years, is Mike Vrabel’s ego,” Stillman said. “And Josh McDaniels is the epitome of the downside of the great Mike Vrabel.”
Stillman’s criticism centered on a moment when Vrabel was asked about McDaniels’ success as a play caller, and he answered with praise for the entire coaching staff.
That is a bad thing in Stillman’s eyes.
The self-proclaimed hater likened Vrabel’s answer to a moment when he was coaching the Tennessee Titans and was asked about the then-quarterback Wil Levis’ performance. Vrabel once again praised the entire staff, as opposed to just crediting the individual.
Which, again, apparently is a bad thing.
“Josh McDaniels is a Super Bowl-winning offensive coordinator who got Mac Jones to the Pro Bowl as a rookie,” Stillman said. “And they have the 23-year-old second coming of Aaron Rodgers without the baggage and drama at quarterback. And Vrabel can’t be happy?”
