New AL East Team Could Thwart Red Sox’s Ketel Marte Trade Plans

Boston could face some serious competition for Marte

The Boston Red Sox have already swung two big trades for Sonny Gray and Johan Oviedo this offseason, and they may not be done just yet. The Red Sox are continually being linked to pretty much every big name who could be available this offseason, with the latest name in that group being Arizona Diamondbacks’ second baseman Ketel Marte.

Over the past nine seasons with the Diamondbacks, Marte has established himself as one of the most well-rounded second basemen in the league. In 2025, Marte hit .283 with 28 home runs and 72 RBIs, which helped him earn his third All-Star selection and second Silver Slugger Award.

Boston is reportedly looking for help in the middle infield, and it is expected to be one of Marte’s top suitors should he become available for a trade. The Sox will face competition, though, as a new report indicates that the Toronto Blue Jays could enter the race for Marte’s services.

“Blue Jays among teams, along with Red Sox and others, interested in D-Backs superstar Ketel Marte. Talks happening but nothing hot yet,” Jon Heyman of the New York Post reported.

The Blue Jays have been perhaps the busiest team early in the offseason after coming up just short of winning the World Series in 2025. Toronto clearly means business, and that could be a problem for Boston in its pursuit of Marte.

It doesn’t seem like any deal for Marte is imminent, but if the Red Sox truly want to land him, they may have to go above and beyond with their trade offer. As a result, the trade rumors swirling around Marte will be worth keeping tabs on as the offseason continues to unfold.
