New England received a rude awakening in Week 15
The New England Patriots seemed to be well on their way to wrapping up the AFC East division on Sunday afternoon after racing out to a 21-0 lead over the Buffalo Bills, but they fell apart down the stretch and allowed the Bills to rally and pick up a 35-31 victory.
While the Pats still have control of the division, the Bills kept the door open for themselves to make a late run over their final three games. And even if they don’t end up winning the division, they proved that they still are one of the top Super Bowl contenders in the league.
Things haven’t always gone according to plan for Buffalo this season, but when the game hangs in the balance, superstar quarterback Josh Allen always seems to find a way to deliver. With a statement victory in the books, one NFL analyst believes that the Bills could pose trouble for the Pats and the rest of the AFC in the playoffs.
“That game shows you that Buffalo is still relevant in the whole big picture of the AFC,” Pete Prisco said on “CBS Sports HQ.” “I think they’re the one team nobody’s gonna want to play in the postseason.”
The 2025 campaign has largely been defined by teams like the Patriots and Denver Broncos unexpectedly emerging as the top teams in the AFC, while squads like the Kansas City Chiefs and Baltimore Ravens have struggled. Through it all, though, the Bills have remained a constant in what has been a year of chaos.
If the Bills can’t win the division, they would be playing on the road for virtually the entire postseason, which would make their path to the Super Bowl more difficult than they’d like it to be. But if they bump into the Pats for a third time this season, that could spell trouble for New England based on how this game played out.
