Paul Pierce Makes Bold Claim About Jaylen Brown’s MVP Case

Brown should definitely be in the conversation

In the absence of Jayson Tatum, the Boston Celtics have turned to Jaylen Brown to spearhead their offense. For the majority of his career in green, Brown has been Boston’s secondary scoring option.

Brown is at his best when operating as a playfinisher. His mid-range and interior scoring are some of the best in the NBA. With a steady increase in his shot diet, Brown has strung together a stellar two months and is coming off a nine-game streak where he scored 30 or more points.

The NBA has recognized Brown’s recent production surge. He’s consistently been in the top 10 of the league’s MVP ladder, getting as high as fifth. However, for the most part, Brown has hovered around the seventh spot in MVP talks.

During a recent episode of the “No Fouls Given” podcast, Celtics legend Paul Pierce discussed Brown’s MVP candidacy and why he feels that the explosive forward is overlooked in the conversation.

“Everybody hates the Celtics,” Pierce said. “No, seriously, why isn’t he? Nobody had the Celtics being in third place in the East with no Tatum. The guy’s putting up 30 consistently; there still hasn’t been nobody talking about him…But this guy has to get some sort of recognition. I mean, this guy is a 30-point walking bucket, and he should be in there.”

Brown faces some stiff competition to become a top-five MVP candidate. However, he should certainly earn another All-Star selection and be in the running for an All-NBA team. He’s proven he can lead an offense and be the number one guy on a roster.

Pierce knows what it’s like to lead the Celtics. He understands the pressure and responsibility that come with the role. However, if Brown doesn’t win MVP, it’s not because people hate the Celtics; it’s because the NBA has some incredible talents and multiple players are having exceptional years.
