Pierce's latest comments will surely turn some heads
The Boston Celtics have been on a roll as of late, as they are in the middle of a five-game win streak that has pushed them up to third place in the Eastern Conference. One of those wins came against the Los Angeles Lakers, and while LeBron James didn’t play in that game, he’s still found himself in the crosshairs of Celtics legend Paul Pierce.
It’s been a bit of an odd season so far for James, as he missed the start of the season with sciatica on his right side. As a result, he’s only played in seven games, and his numbers aren’t exactly what we are used to seeing from him (16.1 PPG, 7.6 APG, 4.7 RPG).
Along the way, James’ streak of consecutive games with at least 10 points scored came to an end, and it’s led some fans to believe that he could be declining after years of dominance. Pierce took things to another level, though, as he claimed that he could guard this version of LeBron, despite being 48 years old himself.
“I could guard this version of LeBron right now,” Pierce boldly claimed on “No Fouls Given.” “Not the LeBron last game, but the last three games before that, I could guard him.”
Pierce and James had their fair share of battles throughout the years, but Pierce hasn’t played in the NBA since 2017. James, meanwhile, proved he still has a little bit left in the tank in the Lakers’ latest win, as he scored 29 points against the Philadelphia 76ers on Sunday.
Given what we know about Pierce, it’s not a surprise to see that he has a lot of confidence in himself. However, considering how James is still playing in the NBA at a high level, this may be a battle that Pierce would end up losing.
