Philip Rivers Story Sets Stage For Tom Brady Comeback Potential

Why the heck not?

The football world just witnessed a 44-year-old Philip Rivers start three NFL games after a whole four-plus seasons of comfortable retirement.

One can’t help but ask the question, why on Earth can’t Tom Brady do the same thing in the near future?

Sure, Brady, 48, is older than Rivers currently is, but then again, Brady sort of needs to be age-adjusted in this discussion. This is a guy who was playing at a high level in the NFL at 45 years of age. Rivers walked away from the game at age 39.

Brady recently said that he could suit up and play NFL football on a month’s notice.

Can we really rule out Brady playing more NFL football at this point, given what we’ve just seen with Rivers, and given how Brady’s psychotic spirit operates?

It’s not outlandish to suggest that Brady could step on an NFL field and run an offense past his 50th birthday.

Right now, Brady seems to be enjoying retirement, and all the things that come with it: more time with his family … the relaxed atmosphere of staying around the game as a broadcaster … not feeling sore on Monday mornings.

Anyone familiar with Brady’s career, though, knows that he’ll probably get the itch to play again within the next few years. And if there’s anyone who would be maniacal enough to play NFL football at age 51 or age 52, it’s the one and only Tom Brady.

Imagine if in a future season, Drake Maye got injured and the Pats were left with poor QB depth, akin to the situation the Colts found themselves in with Daniel Jones this season.

What a story it would be for TB12 to return to the Patriots and re-define the end of his career at Gillette Stadium, playing for his old friends Mike Vrabel and Josh McDaniels.
