May finished with a 4.97 ERA in 2025
The Boston Red Sox lost one of their own Saturday.
Dustin May came to an agreement with the St. Louis Cardinals, according to ESPN’s Jeff Passan. It’ll be a one-year deal that is pending a physical, according to MLB Network’s Jon Heyman.
May, 28, was extremely underwhelming after being acquired at the trade deadline from the Los Angeles Dodgers — finishing with a 5.40 ERA across six total appearances before missing the postseason altogether after being placed on the injured list on Sept. 6.
May said he’s “fully back to normal” and that his elbow feels great in a recent interview with MassLive.
The Red Sox had obviously moved on given their moves earlier this offseason, as trades for Sonny Gray and Johan Oviedo brought significant depth to a starting rotation that already includes Garrett Crochet and Brayan Bello, and options like Connelly Early, Peyton Tolle, Kutter Crawford, Hunter Dobbins and Kyle Harrison.
Boston will mid their disappointing trade deadline acquisition an apathetic adieu.
