Red Sox Rumors: Club Has ‘Touched Base’ With AL East Rival

Seranthony Domínguez finished with a 3.16 ERA in 2025

The Boston Red Sox suddenly have some space in the bullpen…

Aroldis Chapman and Garrett Whitlock are a great one-two punch, but there are spots remaining to help solidify the unit. Steven Matz has already signed on to play elsewhere. Justin Wilson no longer fits the timeline.

It’s not like they don’t have options, though.

Seranthony Domínguez has been “checked in on” during the first few days of MLB’s Winter Meetings, according to MassLive’s Chris Cotillo and Sean McAdam.

Domínguez, 31, has been around the block over the last few seasons, spending time with the Philadelphia Phillies, Baltimore Orioles and Toronto Blue Jays — finishing with a 3.78 ERA split between those three teams in 2024 and 2025.

Boston needs a left-handed option to serve in the middle innings, and though he wouldn’t fill that role, his arrival would immediately extend the timeline on some younger pitchers who might not yet be ready — David Sandlin, Tyler Uberstine, Luis Perales — to make the transition from Triple-A Worcester.
