Red Sox Rumors: Where Things Stand In Boston’s Pursuit Of Ketel Marte

Boston reportedly has had talks involving the MLB All-Star

There’s a chance the Red Sox’s biggest offseason move comes via the trade market and not free agency.

Boston reportedly has had trade talks involving MLB All-Star second baseman Ketel Marte.

“While discussions are still at an early stage, the Red Sox and Diamondbacks have had trade talks centered on infielder Ketel Marte,” MassLive’s Sean McAdam and Chris Cotillo wrote from the Winter Meetings on Monday, citing sources.

MassLive reported the talks have included “some exchanges of names” by the two teams, but did not cite which Red Sox players have been mentioned. According to multiple reports, the Diamondbacks are considering moving on from Marte as they seek starting pitchers under team control.

“The source cautioned that no deal is close and estimated that the Red Sox are, at the same time, conducting trade talks with ‘three or four other’ teams in an effort to improve their roster,” MassLive wrote.

Red Sox chief baseball officer Craig Breslow shared that Boston has received trade calls pertaining to its pitching depth. The Red Sox would consider packaging pitchers if they felt the deal addressed other positions on the roster, Breslow said.
