Report: ‘Nothing Close’ On Red Sox-Ketel Marte Trade Front

All quiet on the trade front

It was reported on Tuesday morning that a potential trade sending Arizona Diamondbacks All-Star second baseman Ketel Marte to the Boston Red Sox is “still on the table.”

MLB insider Mark Feinsand also said Tuesday that the Red Sox are currently the frontrunners to land the 2023 NLCS MVP.

WEEI’s Rob Bradford poured cold water on those rumors Tuesday afternoon though.

“Per source, update regarding possible Ketel Marte-to-Red Sox trade: Nothing close,” Bradford posted on X.

This lines up with what Bradford reported on Dec. 8 when he said that there’d been “no real momentum” regarding a potential trade.

It’s been reported multiple times recently that chief baseball officer Craig Breslow’s current priority is re-signing All-Star third baseman Alex Bregman.

The team could also pursue another starting pitcher via trade, such as Milwaukee Brewers ace Freddy Peralta.

Marte inked a six-year, $116.5 million contract extension with the Diamondbacks in April and made his third All-Star team in 2025. He finished the year with 28 home runs, 72 RBIs and a .283/.376/.517 slash line across 556 plate appearances but was limited to 126 games due in part to an early-season hamstring injury.
