This couldn't really happen, could it?
The NFL season is already effectively over for teams that have been disqualified from the playoffs, including the Cincinnati Bengals.
This has given some NFL pundits reason to speculate on roster moves to better certain teams’ fortunes in 2026, and when it comes to the Bengals, CBS’ NFL insider Jonathan Jones believes that several teams will be pursuing a trade for Cincy’s QB, Joe Burrow, this offseason.
Burrow’s football career has been a mixture of resilience and elite play. Drafted first overall by the Bengals in 2020 after a historic Heisman-winning season at LSU, where he threw for 5,671 yards and 60 touchdowns to lead the Tigers to a national title, Burrow quickly showed promise. His rookie year ended with a torn ACL after 10 games, but he returned in 2021 to guide the Bengals to Super Bowl LVI, falling to the Los Angeles Rams.
In 2022, he took Cincinnati to the AFC Championship, losing to the Kansas City Chiefs. Injuries struck again in 2023 with a wrist issue sidelining him midseason. Fully healthy in 2024, Burrow posted career highs, completing 71% of passes for 4,918 yards and 43 touchdowns.
The 2025 season brought more challenges, with injuries causing him to miss significant time (23 games missed over five years total). Through limited action, he accumulated 1,268 yards, 12 touchdowns, and four interceptions entering late December. A shutout loss to the Ravens on December 14 saw zero scores and two picks, but Burrow rebounded spectacularly against the Dolphins on December 21, throwing for 309 yards and four touchdowns in a 45-21 win, reaching 20,000 career yards in his 75th game (the fifth-fastest in NFL history).
